Dude portrait study, and doodle
Saw a masterfully painted portrait today and really liked its style, so I decided to do a photo study while attempting to mimic said style. Result... is weird :P I will keep trying though.
Also need to paint more men. I paint way too many girls.
Bonus random doodle from class. I name it "the Dragon House". Might color it.

AJ Speed Painting Class 2
Take-away:
1. Make brushes so I wouldn't have to do the tedious part over and over again.
2. Do focused, 5- or 10-minute exercises, and think of them as "drills" as opposed to "show time" in real paintings.
3. Realism has more to do with accuracy of shapes and values than texture.
Exercise:
10, 10, 5, 5 minute exercises using a 100% opacity brush, with intent of learning about color.
Random doodles in class, because... uhhh what's a focus?

AJ Speed Painting Class 1
Class exercise: painting without UI, everything's a hotkey. 10-15 minutes each sketch.
Takeaway:
I did not think it was a big deal to change hotkeys and make new ones - was complacent in just using photoshop default hotkeys. However, it was such a freeing experience to paint without having to look at UI!
This has turned out to be one of those classes that completely change, and hopefully massively improve, my thinking and process.

Heroes: Might & Magic 1 fan art, Warlock Units (Sketch)
Heroes: Might & Magic has a very special place in my heart - it's the first computer game I felt a strong want for, as well as the game that opened up the world of western fantasy to me. I've always wanted to pay homage to the game, having spent many days in middle school scribbling griffins and dwarves in my notebook, imagining stories of residents who live in that magical world.
