Sergeant Dan and The Bat-Men of Thorium - color & light block in

Pretty rough color/light studies.  Don't like how the face is coming along, so I did some facial studies afterward.  Men's faces are hard... actually men are harder to draw for me in general.  Need to look up some anatomy reference for his pose later as well.

For character of the week challenge on conceptart.org.  Quick lunch sketch, drawing inspiration from the image of the epic struggle between men and the turtle-kind.

Pirate Dirigible - Final

This is as far as I can take this piece before hitting the sack tonight + hopping on 7am flight tomorrow.  Not finished, but learned things, and had fun :)  I guess that's what matters most at this point.

Pirate Dirigible - wip

Chances of finishing this before the weekly acitivity deadline (Saturday) is pretty low at this point.  Gonna try to pull it off tonight on top of packing for the trip tomorrow... (right...)

Heaven vs. Hell color rough

Still needing a final painting pass... I have never managed to make anything look decent by just doing grayscale + color overlay.  I wonder if that's weird.

Heaven vs. Hell WIP

Early wip for CGHUB sketch jam: Heaven vs. Hell.  Didn't try to do anything new idea-wise.  Rather, the focus is composition, readability, and overall energy.

The raw, 30-minute sketch below has a lot of energy.  Hoping to not lose too much of it as I go on, heheh.

Sketch night - fortress in the sky

Doodles from Monday sketch night.  The boat thing is kind of fortress-ish, but I'm not sure what the other thing is...

Finally catching up with scanning

It's been a while since I last scanned my sketches...  Well, it may look like I've been busy, but I've really been pretty lazy.  Gotta get back in gear.

While scanning the Saturday animator's life drawing session sketches, I realized that the sequential, 30-second gestures look pretty cool when put in... well, sequential order.  Go figure.

Also, a nose drawing and some random doodles from Monday sketch nights.

Mystic Gunslinger - sketch

Trying to get back into doing forum topics.  This week's Character of the Week theme at conceptart.org is apparently "Mystic Gunslinger".  Focusing on the pose right now, trying to apply the really great lecture by Steven Huston earlier today.  Looking forward to the oil paint workshop tomorrow.

Moar life painting

One 30 minute pose and a bunch of 5-min scribbles, from Laguna College of Art and Design.  Half of the session were 30 second and 1 minute poses and it was a lot of fun.

I will scan in the pencil gestures at some point... heheh...

Life painting 03-24-2010

Got a painting out of yesterday's session, roughly half an hour.  I'll scan the pencil drawings this weekend.

Pencil month, 3 and 4 of 31

Architectures!  The first one is a group of studies from Ling Xiang's artbook.  Amazing, talented guy.  The 2nd is my own attempt at doodling some buildings.

Pencil month, 1 of 31

I'm planning to seriously hit pencil drawing for a month.  The plan is to roll a D6 to decide my general subject-matter each morning and go from there.  Today's roll was "prop," and I figure it's time I learned to draw guns.  Some studies from this morning (from photos and Mass Effect art book,) and a couple of original, silly designs from tonight.

Resuming updates

I have just started a 3D job, and I will hit drawing and painting hard in my spare time to remind myself of my goal of becoming a good artist - not just a good 3D artist, but good overall. I think some of the shape principles I've been struggling so much with may finally have begun to sink in. We'll see.

Random doodles done at sketch night, and a CG Hub drawing jam wip. Drawing jam title: Have Gun, Will Travel.

A Pause in Updates

Due to recent crunch time at work, this blog has not been recently updated. Apologies if you are looking at this curious about new art I have made. Please visit my "portfolio" or "sketchbook" if you'd like to check out what I've been up to. Sorry for the trouble and thanks :)

I will come back to this blog once life goes back to normal.

Storm

Kind of... I made up my own costume for her because I couldn't remember what she normally wears. It was a fun piece :)
